Arrive at the historic 1870s Farm Homestead, where you'll enjoy a BBQ dinner by the river’s edge. The next day, embark on a thrilling heli-drop into the mountains, followed by a scenic backpack hike to an alpine campsite. Experience campfire cooking under the stars, and settle into your sleeping bags for a night in the wilderness. On the final day, break camp, hike out while enjoying a packed lunch along the way, and finish with a 4WD tour back to the car park, completing your adventure.

Guided 2-Night Heli-Drop Hiking Adventure: One Night at the Homestead, One Night Alpine Camping

Day 1: 5 pm Arrive late afternoon, evening farm tour or walk BBQ wild meal by rivers edge Accommodation at 1870’s Farm Homestead.

Day 2: 7 am Heli drop up into mountains, hilltop breakfast, Back Pack Hiking to Alpine Campsite. Campfire cooking, sleeping bags.

Day 3: Break camp and hike out lunch along the way, 4WD tour back to Car park and away by 2 pm

Island Hills Station boasts a continuous ecosystem, ranging from submontane beech forest to alpine tussock land. This diverse environment supports numerous threatened native species, including kārearea, kākāriki, kākā, kea, South Island Robin, mountain wētā, and 16 other at-risk plant species.

The team at Island Hills Station includes NZwildthings Guides, who are certified in Mountain First Aid, hold firearms licences, and bring extensive experience as hosts. They are also proud members of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association.
